About the Function

Commercial Legal- a vertical within the Legal team dealing with multiple matters to provide legal support to the business, including (but not limited to) commercial contracts and RFPs.

 

Purpose of your Role

This Legal Counsel role sits within the Legal Commercial team of Tata Communications team and will report to a Senior Legal Counsel or to the Director, Legal.

 

Primary Function

The primary function of the role is to provide commercial transactional support to the European business (includes the UK and continental Europe) and to support cross functional projects and initiatives, either on its own or in collaboration with senior members of the team as needed. The business teams may be located within Europe or in other jurisdictions. The work includes supporting RFPs and contracts- both negotiating new contracts and supporting in-life contract matters (such as, interpretation of terms, amendments, preliminary support on disputes before handover to the litigation team).

You will be

Proactive and hands-on/ Building relationships: In a remote-working environment, you must proactively reach out to colleagues (within Legal and in the business) to build relationships and learn and integrate with the organisation. You will embrace new ideas, challenges and change with positivity and a hands-on approach.

You will be accountable for (Key Responsibilities)

Providing commercial transactional support to the European business which includes-

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating “standard” and “non-standard” commercial agreements for the provision of services with minimal supervision and advising business/sales team of relevant issues;
  • Providing legal support for miscellaneous matters (not limited to sale contracts) including HR, leases/facilities;
  • Supporting and working with Senior Counsel(s)/senior members of the team on complex transactions or other matters, as requested;
  • Keeping senior stakeholders informed and escalating issues where needed in a timely manner;
  • Managing multiple matters at a time and proactively engaging with internal stakeholders (including procurement, compliance, regulatory, litigation, Tax, and others) to drive a deal to closure;
  • Supporting miscellaneous know-how and best practice documentation projects, including creating and updating standard templates and acting as SPOC on cross-functional projects assigned; and
  • Performing legal research/analysis and drafting opinions and position papers upon request.

 

You have (Qualification and exp)

Required

  • A LLB (or equivalent) degree with admission to the bar in at least one relevant jurisdiction or one common law jurisdiction;
  • At least 5 years post qualification experience (not including training contract), with experience in general corporate, commercial and contract law;
  • Knowledge and experience related to the telecommunications or other technology industries;
  • Excellent technical drafter with a strong understanding of contract law;
  • Ability to work autonomously (with limited supervision), but collaboratively with other members of the Legal team, with the judgment to escalate items where appropriate;
  • Time management skills with ability to manage multiple transactions and stakeholders;
  • Excellent communications skills;
  • Ability to work in an unstructured, fast-paced, multi-cultural environment;
  • Ability to work and thrive in a remote-working environment and proactively take steps to integrate with the organisation; and
  • Motivated and proactive individual who provides solutions and can close matters promptly.

Desirable

  • Experience of negotiating global or multi-jurisdiction contracts and deals; and
  • Knowledge or experience of the civil law system.
