Details of the Role

This position is responsible for the strategic planning, design, and technical support for Tata’s own submarine cable networks as well as consortium cables that Tata is a member of.

This includes but not limited to subsea cables and components consisting of subsea cable networks such as subsea line terminal equipment, subsea cable monitoring equipment, undersea repeaters, branching units, and power feed equipment.

This function also needs to analyze submarine plant characteristics/performances and study life extension of TGN (Tata Global Network) legacy subsea cables.

 

Objective and Responsibilities

  • This function needs to lead technology evaluations and qualifications for the following objectives:

  • Maximize subsea asset capabilities including all type of subsea assets like TGN cables and consortium cables
  • Drive cost down
  • Reduce physical foot prints
  • This may need to perform cable/equipment planning via RFP while working along with commercial team.

    This function is also to participate in subsea engineering communities to study and evaluate new subsea technologies and trends.

    The function engages with Products Team and other network Engineering teams to understand market forecast/ trends, and with relevant teams and vendors to develop solutions.

    This position is responsible to provide technical support and consulting to other organizations such as Operations. This would include trouble shooting for any issue on subsea networks.

     

Minimum qualification & experience

  • Education: Engineer/ME/ MTech 

    Experience: 8-12 years, experience in submarine network engineering required

Other knowledge/skills

  • This position must have strong knowledge on submarine systems and technologies. This also needs good understanding of subsea engineering communities and trends. Such knowledge and expertise includes but not limited to new subsea cable technologies like SDM (Space Division Multiplexing) and MCF (Multi-Core Fiber), critical SLTE technologies like nonlinear compensation, DSP using newest and most advanced  CMOS technology like 3nm, multi-dimensional modulation, probabilistic constellation shaping, Nyquist sub-carriers, etc.  Tactical role which provides a marked contribution to defining the direction of new products, processes, standards or operational plans based upon business strategy, with a significant mid term impact on business unit overall results. This may lead important projects that require providing experienced project team members with instruction, guidance and advice in all aspects of the project to ensure delivery of quality outcomes for any form of subsea networks – Tata’s new and legacy cables and consortium ones. This also need capabilities to identifies problems and significantly improves, changes or adapts existing methods and techniques.
