Broad outline of the Role

Key Objective / Purpose of Job:

 

Primary purpose of the role is to support network & business development activities from idea through to completion for Tata Communications.

 

Based in a Tata Comms Mumbai office working for Asst. Vice President, International Network Development & Strategy, the role requires a complex mix of project & network engineering, negotiation & communication  and commercial (financial acumen & contractual legal) skills.  In addition to internal Tata Communications teams, it will involve also involve working with Tata Communications partners, suppliers and customers.

Purpose - Broad objective of the role

Major Activities:

 

  • Support major fibre & transport network and business development activities from concept to completion, in support of all Tata Communications Lines of Business
  • Understand the market and internal needs for capacity in the Indian sub-continent region on international routes, and regional/metropolitan network as directed
  • Work with TCL partners (suppliers, customers) to understand their capabilities and potential requirements
  • Related to TCL’s future needs support development of solutions that are sound in detail and include both tactical and strategic solutions and opportunities
  • Maintain knowledge of Indian sub-continent region market and work with other internal users and sources of market data to ensure our understanding of the Transport network and market is relevant and accurate
  • Demonstrate knowledge of network and product implementation and operation, in order to examine in detail the current status of TCL’s business and support proposal of a variety of practicable future solutions
  • Maintain relationships with key partners and customers of TCL, and demonstrate the ability to build new relationships at an appropriate pace and management level.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ideally degree educated or equivalent with at least three years experience of working in International Wholesale Telecommunication

 

Requisite Skills:

  • Sound knowledge and historical relationships in the Indian sub-continent region telecommunications markets

 

Technical

  • Knowledge of optical and submarine cable networking.

  • Extremely strong written and verbal communications skills, in English and ideally with a second language from the region
  • Strong spreadsheet, business and financial modelling skills based upon industry recognised cashflow & accounting principles
  • Appropriate attention to detail
  • An understanding of the legal fundamentals used in commercial contracts

Minimum qualification & experience

Work Experience

  • Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years experience in International Wholesale Telecommunications with recent work in subsea cable environments
  • Comfortable in rapidly changing environments and with incomplete information.
  • Willingness to undertake international travel from time-to-time including weekends as necessary.
  • Willingness to work outside of ‘normal working hours’ when necessary to accommodate other times zones and/or different working days.
  • Sensitive to cross cultural, inter-personal & regional issues
  • Comfortable with working at both the detail and the big picture levels
  • Strong financial and presentation skills
  • History of enabling and managing change
  • Able to work alone and on all required work items regardless of topic or significance

  • Technical and commercial orientation
  • Good knowledge of local market
  • Solution orientation, ability to perceive end to end solution.
  • Data analysis (based on consultant reports) and representation.
